This semester I decided to work on my Integrating technology skills during the SDL weeks. I had the opportunity to to help to build an art installation of Rob Zimmerman. He provided the technologies and as the title says, I did the programming work for it.
I worked with the Teensy 3.0 and the OctoWS2811 LED Library. We tried to push a video out of processing to the teensy to create a persistence of vision (POV) movie, but it in the end the hardware was not good enough. We tried to address too many leds at one time with just one micro-controller. In the future with an even faster micro-controller and faster leds this will definitely be possible. The time that was available was enough for some nice pictures, but it was too short to get the whole thing working.
Tijmen worked hard and impressed with his ability for lateral thinking and technical analysis. It is not his shortcoming that the project did not succeed in the way that was intended.
He is very nice to work with, pro-active, and professional.
