SHIFT is the product of 18 master students working within OPENLIGHT, the creative lab of the Intelligent Lighting Institute at TU/e.
Our world is in a constant state of transformation. Most of the time, our view of the world will change parallel to this transformation. The changes in the world are often propelled us as an individual, group, generation or country. Are we aware of the influence we have on our environment? The installation allows you to experience and admire this influence by joining forces with others.
Your acts have meaning!
Students of the Intelligent Lighting Institute of Eindhoven University of Technology want to make visitors of GLOW 2012 think about the amount of control we have on the changing façade of the world. The visitors will be able to experience individual and collective influence on the world around them by collectively replacing weight.
My focus in this project
In this Module I learned several new programs, Cinema 4D (used for rendering 3D animations with lighting), Unity (a 3D game engine), Vizzard (used in Vertigo in a 3D cave), Resolume Arena (a VJ software packet.
I connected several computers with OSC (open sound control) in processing. With Processing I could send the sensor data towards a specific computer running Resolume.
I also wrote a python script that was used to read the Phidgets Spatial 3/3/3 accelerometer and send this towards processing. This was needed because we wanted to see if the Wi-Fi connection of the iPod touch (which we also used as accelerometer) was causing any delay in the visualization.
The focus on integrating technology was very satisfying I learned a lot more from what programs are out there.
