The focus in this assignment was on making a prototype and develop analyzing movement skills for these prototypes. I analyzed the products on several aspects, Form, Function, interaction and movement qualities. The analyses where done in a group where we compared our prototypes. The focus for these analyses where different each time. These techniques where Loosening and Tightening.
Tightening: By being critical on each product and asking why it has certain movement property’s new values emerged. We looked especially similarities in each product. During the weeks each product inherited some of the movement qualities of each other. Loosening: By looking at the opportunities of the product new values emerged. By focusing on what kind of our products made it unique we made the differences of each prototype bigger.
The iterations of alternately tightening and loosening made our prototype have a rapid evolution in form and function.
I took a speaker as input for this assignment and made new models that enabled new interaction possibilities through movement. This assignment gave me a lot of inspiration to create products with movement qualities in them. In the future I still want to make a modular speaker system that can be connected through building blocks that can connect to each other through magnets. This will enable you a playful playing device that is fun and aesthetically pleasing.
